A Blessed Feast of the Cross

  • “So let us not be ashamed of the Cross of Christ, but even if others keep it secret, you should openly sign it upon your forehead, so that evil spirits beholding the royal symbol may fly far from you, terrified. Make this sign as you eat and drink, when you sit down, when you go to bed, when you get up again, while you are talking, while you are walking, in brief, at your every undertaking. He who was crucified then is now in heaven above. For we would have a reason to be ashamed if, after He had been crucified and buried, He had remained in the grave. But now, He who was crucified on Golgotha ascended to heaven from the Mount of Olives there to the east. For from there He went down into hell and came again to us here.” – St. Cyril of Jerusalem
  • “Rescue yourself from drowning. You are fleeing from a shipwreck, and are you embracing lead, that is, the things of this world.? If you desire not to drown and sink, catch and hold onto a plank and be supported on wood, that is, let the Cross carry you through.” – St. Augustine.
  • “We Christians wear out on our foreheads the sign of the Cross. At every step, with every movement, at every going in and at every going out, when we put on our clothes and shoes, when we bathe, when we sit at the table, when we light the lamps, on the couch, on the seat, and in all the ordinary actions of life, we trace upon the forehead the sign of the cross.” – Tertullian
